The USAT Liberty, a 120-metre cargo ship torpedoed in 1942, rests in 30 metres of water off Tulamben's black-sand coast. Coral has consumed its hull. Jacks and bumphead parrotfish patrol its holds.
The wreck is accessible to divers of every certification level, lying close enough to shore that surface swells rarely interrupt visibility. Bali's dive sites span three distinct zones: the northeast volcanic coast, the southern limestone peninsula, and the offshore islands. Each delivers a different marine signature.
Tulamben and Amed anchor the northeast. The volcanic substrate supports soft corals and macro life—pygmy seahorses, ghost pipefish, nudibranchs in quantities that rival Lembeh Strait.
